The day is March 20th, 2010, the Vernal Equinox. The equinox marks the first day of Spring, as the day with exactly 12 hours of daylight and night time. Spring is Lucy's favorite holiday by far, lucky her for having no spring allergies. Although I'm dreading the coming hay fever, I noted a few weeks ago that Twilight: New Moon was being released today. Lucy absolutely adores the Twilight series, she's totally obsessed. She even has an Edward Cullen cutout in her room. So, I decided I would get her a gift.
I prepared most of it in the days leading up to Saturday (March 20th), but goodness me was it a gift she'll remember. Let me describe this occurrence, hehe.
That morning we both had tutoring at Glenfield middle school; she tutors kids in writing and I tutor in math. She had gotten a haircut the day before, and, although she dislikes it (she doesn't like drastic changes, apparantly), as soon as I saw it I thought it was absolutely gorgeous. It's much shorter, and thinned out, but it suits her very well. I really really love it. After our brief encounter at 8:15 in the morning, we both headed up to our individual rooms. We tutored 'til about noon, and both got outside. The weather today was fitting for the first day of spring, absolutely beautiful. Probably about 65-70 degrees out, sun blazing and skies a deep blue. We walked north a bit and sat down on a bench. That's when I pulled out the package from my bag.
It was an 8x8x8 cube box. Wrapped in some gold and green gift paper. She had absolutely no idea it was coming. She said "Tom, uh, what is this...?" I told her to just open it and see. So she begins to tear off the wrapping, and she opens the box. Inside the box she sees a message on a heart shaped doily attached to some colored paper. The first message reads "HEY, LUCY!" , and that's it. She pulls it out of the box, and underneath is some packing paper as filler. She pulls out that layer of packing paper, and sees another message on a doily and paper. The second message reads "Hi Lucy! This is my 'First Day of Spring' gift for you. Hope you like it!" So, she pulls out the second message, and then the next layer of packing paper. Then she gets to read the best love note I've ever written her, titled: 101 Reasons I Love Lucy De Souza (I'll put that in the next post). Then she pulls out the next layer. Underneath, there's a bunch of chocolate. Some of her personal favorites like reeses, hershey's bars, and milky ways, and also, a much more special one she loves, a big bar of Godiva chocolate. At this point she is practically exploding with happiness. I tell her "Lucy, keep going, there's more." She's in disbelief after that. So she starts pulling out all the chocolates, the next layer of packing paper, and underneath is a Twilight: New Moon 14-month Calendar. She's glowing now, and gives me a huge hug. She's practically speechless. I then make the final move, and say "Haha, you know... that isn't even the best part." And I remove the last piece of paper covering the bottom of the box myself, and inside is a 2-Disc Special Edition copy of Twilight: New Moon. She pretty much shrieks. She has now exploded with happiness. She's speechless, she can barely say anything coherent at all. I could swear she was about to faint, her breathing got so heavy, I had to remind her to calm down! She hugged me quite some time after that.
After that, we went back to my house and watched the movie together, she was so excited. After we were finished watching the movie, we had about an hour and a half to kill. Well, I'm sure you can imagine how pleasantly that went, hehehe.
All in all, today was absolutely marvelous, and I'm so lucky to have such a great girlfriend.
